Jerry has always been creative. Whether it's music, decorative hand-molded plaster for private residences, or woodcarving. His passion and joy comes from the opportunity to learn and teach new techniques.

  • Woodcarving

After years of designing custom hand-molded plaster and stucco for house, Jerry began working at Caterpillar. While the physical stress was less, there was no creative outlet. At the same time he was working with the Boy Scouts. In a chance encounter, he met a man hand carving neckerchief slides. It looked interesting, so he picked up a kit in the camp store. After years of plaster work, he took to wood carving like a duck to water. That was a short six years ago!

Currently, Jerry is an active member of the Alamo Area Woodcarvers in San Antonio, TX. He is also the Director of Publicity for the Texas Woodcarvers Guild. In April of 2023 he won the title of Texas State Whittling Champion at the Texas Woodcarving Guild convention in Kerrville, TX. He's also won numerous awards for entries at the Guild show as well as at the Caricature Carvers of America show in Colorado Springs, CO.

  • The Whistling Whittler

Jerry teaches beginning woodcarving at Woodcraft in San Antonio. Active on social media and at the shows, he noticed a growing gap in the carving community... support for New Carvers. Beyond various YouTube videos and very basic classes, there is very little support for a new carver. The Whistling Whittler wants to change that! We will bring new, fun, and detailed kits for all learning levels. Each with step-by-step instructions, written and photos. Our kits are designed to make your journey fun and to help you gain new skills as a carver.
